Take Action

In New York, purchasing solar electric systems is incentivized through rebate programs and tax credits.  However, other incentive structures exist which have been more successful at launching solar markets.  In Germany, their feed-in tariff made them the top solar country in the world.  New Jersey had a solar renewable energy credit structure which has made it one of the best solar states.

Currently before the state legislature is the New York Solar Industry Development and Jobs Act of 2010. This legislation would create a solar renewable energy credit (SREC) market where solar owners would receive a SREC for every megawatt-hour of electricity their system produces; utilities would be required to purchase SRECs based on a certain percentage of their electricity sales. This would move solar away from a rebate structure and create market-driven incentives for individuals and organizations to install them.

Watch the great video below, produced by SolarOne, which explains the way SRECs function and what their benefits are.

Take action and let your New York State representatives know that you support SREC legislation.

Testimonials

TMBA is an engineering-driven firm. We were looking for a highly technical installation with a quality of support that would assure us that the system would produce value over an extended period of time. In our opinion, EmPower was the only bidder that really met that requirement. Ted Bier
