FREE Multi-Site Project
LIPA, Family Residences and Essential Enterprises (FREE) and EmPower Solar partnered on the largest photovoltaic (PV) installation for a non-profit organization on Long Island. EmPower installed solar at 40 residential and 4 commercial facilities across Nassau and Suffolk county for FREE.
The work was completed by April, 2011. The 44 PV systems total almost 800 kilowatts (kW) and will produce approximately 1,018,000 kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity annually, reducing utility expenses by 27 percent per year. FREE now has the ability to reinvest the savings into programs geared toward improving the quality of life for individuals with mental and developmental disabilities.
The complexity and scale of the FREE project has gained national recognition from the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) and the Solar Electric Power Association(SEPA).
There are many reasons why the project was successful. All the entities involved were fully invested in a positive outcome.

TMBA is an engineering-driven firm. We were looking for a highly technical installation with a quality of support that would assure us that the system would produce value over an extended period of time. In our opinion, EmPower was the only bidder that really met that requirement.Ted Bier
